Perfect Saturday, stake conference

We had a great Saturday yesterday. Jeff played basketball and I went swimming, then we headed to the park since it was a beautiful day. Lily is pretty amazing and she can climb the rock wall all by herself! She did it probably 10 times and we were so impressed. Ryan walked up and down the steps (holding Jeff's or my hand) and went down the slide a bunch of times. He and Lily had fun doing a train down the slide. There was another little boy there around Ryan’s age and Lily wanted to catch him at the bottom of the slide and help him up the rock wall. She was a little upset that she had to make room for his parents to help him instead.
Jeff went to a Priesthood leadership meeting and then I went to the adult session of stake conference. It was a great session and a lot of the focus was on teaching the gospel in your home and having your home be a real haven from the world. It was also about reaching out to those less actives in our wards and being their friends and inviting them back. And to assist in hastening the work by inviting, inviting, inviting.  Some things that stuck out to me were: Weekly family home evening (which we don’t do right now but Lily learns so quickly and loves to teach that this is really something we need to be consistent with)…..and then inviting friends to attend our family nights, not leaving the house without having a family kneeling prayer, our body is a sacred temple and should not be defiled, modest dressing—even young primary age girls should dress appropriately and not whatever the fashions are—dresses go to the knee even if leggings are worn, coming closer to the Savior and having faith in Him to hasten the work and do what He has asked of us.  Contention is not of the Lord and should not be allowed in our home and in our relationships.

While at conference Jeff was with the kids and he texted me that Lily was in the tub and squirted him with one of the bath toys. Afterward she said, “that made me so happy. That was just what I needed.” He then took pictures of her kissing herself in the vanity mirror, a lot of times. At least she has a good self esteem and loves herself a lot.

Tonight I tried to implement some of the things we learned at conference. We read scriptures and Lily wanted to read the whole Book of Mormon, the regular version. She held the book and flipped pages and told us the Joseph Smith story since we had just read that in the picture book. My goal is to either read during breakfast as a family or to read before her bedtime stories. We also did some flashcards so we can get back in that habit again. Lily loves learning so much and was so excited to go over them. And we did her Preschool book which was also a lot of fun for her.
