Maxton Ronald Baer was blessed on Sunday, August 3, 2014, in
the Severance Ward, Greeley, Colorado. Jeff gave him a beautiful blessing and
Max looked like an angel. He was calm and very quiet through the entire meeting. Jeff’s
parents and sisters, Sarah, Lisa and Diana, were there and we spent a very nice day
together. Darin and Rachel had planned on coming but they would have been there less
than 24 hours and we had just seen them at the beach so they decided not to come. Dad
had to leave Sunday evening but I stayed until Thursday.
Tiffany and Jeff are waiting for their new building to be
finished in Windsor which will be much closer. Right now it takes about 20 minutes to get to
church.

A new temple is being built in Ft Collins and it will be about 10 minutes
away. Currently they go to the Denver Temple which is an hour away. We drove past the sites
which are in beautiful areas.
Dad and I flew in on Friday evening and Dad loved the hour drive from the airport with the beautiful farms stretching for miles, mountains in the distance, and NO traffic. Tiffany fixed a delicious dinner and Ryan opened his birthday present which was a new tricycle with a push handle. He was very excited and wanted to ride it right away, but he accepted a ride around the living room until the next day. Jeff played the piano and then guitar and he and Tiffany sang the songs we love to hear. We stayed up late talking, but it was a very enjoyable evening.
The next day Jeff took Lily and Ryan to the park on their bikes and we drove there.
It was a beautiful day and we met a nice family who bring
children (around 7 or more each year) from third world countries to sing in a choir for a
year for their church. They tour to different churches and the mission is to find families here
who will adopt them. The couple have adopted a boy from Haiti and have two children
of their own. It is amazing how people are helping others in very creative ways.
Max, Ryan and Jeff took naps while Dad, Tiffany, Lily and I
went to check out beautiful RV’s at a showroom Dad spotted on the drive to Windsor. The
price ranges were from $58,000 to $450,000, so you can imagine there were some
amazing features: expanded rooms, canopy and flat screen TV on the outside,
washer, dryer, full-size refrigerators, two bathrooms, beautiful flooring and
counters, ceilings, wood and fixtures. These are very spacious but only have one bedroom
and space for possibly two other people to sleep. Dad is dreaming and planning for
his retirement. Tiffany
thought it would be a fun activity to do again.

Then Dad wanted to go see homes for sale in the area so we
visited some model homes that were very nice. Lily thought all of this was a
lot of fun.
After that we went to the County Fair which was fun. As I
write this I’m wondering how in the world we got Dad to do all of this, but we did allow
him a 20-minute nap so that helped. The children had fun in a bouncy house, on some
rides and in the petting zoo. Ryan was not allowed on a car ride because it looked like he
was over 2 inches too short. When Tiffany took him for his 2-yr check up on Tues
he measured 35 1/4 inches. I think their line is a bit off. Jeff got quite dizzy on the
carousel that was small and seemed to go around forever. I have to say that looking a
llama in the eyes from 2 feet away was very eerie! Dad was happy to stay with Max in the
shade and people watch. There were lots of tractors and equipment so Ryan was very
happy. We finished the day with dinner at Cafe Rio and when we
finally went home we practically dropped in bed!

The rest of the week was fun with a visit to a play place
that featured story time with Elsa (complete with “Let it Go”) and the children were
invited to wear costumes. I loved the pictures with Elsa and Lily in her Elsa dress. Ryan did
not want a picture with Elsa. They had so much fun playing afterwards. I enjoyed quiet
time with Max while Tiffany took Ryan to the doctor, him and Lily to the gym several
times, and we went on some short shopping trips. I got a cold so we tried every remedy
possible and it was gone after 2 days. Coldese, EmergenC, essential oils and naps
seemed to do the trick.
I loved Family Home Evening where we played Holy Ghost Bingo and talked about making choices. Lily gave such a sweet, thoughtful prayer. I enjoyed watching them dance creatively when the music went on. I enjoyed Max’s delight when Jeff played the guitar.
Our evenings were spent planning what we would do on our trip to Spain. I’m so glad Jeff and Tiff are going or I’m sure I would not be a tourist, other than possibly a hotel tour. Jeff has mapped out a plan with sights, suggested days and times and even purchased some tickets. When asked about such careful planning he said he learned his lesson when he and Tiffany went on their honeymoon and he resisted when Tiffany wanted to plan events, and then when they wanted to do certain activities, there was no space and they missed doing them. One event at the top of Jeff’s list is a soccer game and it happens the Barcelona team is playing in Barcelona while we are there.
We are also planning on stopping in Switzerland so we still have to make plans for that, although we know we will fly into Geneva and stay two nights and drive around Lake Geneva to see Lausanne, Vevey (where Dad served and taught Frere Donet Monet) and Montreux (Chateau de Chillon). The mission headquarters have now moved to Lyon since missionaries from outside the European Union are no longer allowed in Switzerland.
I enjoyed watching Jeff play with the marble game. Ryan got one for his birthday and Jeff liked it so much he ordered a sturdier one but then it wasn’t compatible. He and the children enjoyed it very much, though. I admit I put marbles in it as well because I liked the sound as they made their runs.
It was so fun to see the children’s excitement as the train went by behind their home--or stopped--, farm equipment working in the field behind their house (they have such a beautiful view that goes forever), noticed the American flag on homes and businesses they passed, or saw farm or work equipment. I think Ryan’s favorite is the excavator. They both like the farm and equipment books.
