I went over Labor Day weekend and Jeff's family was so kind to watch the kids. I ended up missing Lily's birthday, but the great thing with kids is that they don't know when dates or events are so you can celebrate them whenever.
Amy, Ramir, and Cole were the perfect hosts. Ramir took time off work and we spent our days touring around the area, eating at great restaurants, and enjoying one another's company. I felt so much joy when I walked off the plane and saw my dear friend. I absolutely love, love, love friendships that are lasting and continue right where you left off, no matter how much time has gone by. Amy and I enjoyed so many spiritual and hard experiences together that it's a special connection. And it's so fun that Ramir served in the same mission as we all had that common bond. Cole was so much fun and really into animals and frankly knows about more animals than I do. They are wonderful parents and Amy is doing a terrific job homeschooling Cole and allowing him to explore his interests and talents. They are enjoying their time in LA and making a life for themselves there. I had never been to this part of the country so it's always fun for me to see new places too.
Getting off the plane!
The Rodriguez's paid for much of my expenses which was very generous and when it was time to go home I felt like I had eaten a wonderful buffet and was stuffed on all that goodness. Amy bore her testimony at church and talked about our mission, our relationship, and our sisterhood in the gospel. Missions are great for so many reasons and this was just one of the amazing side effects of having served, a beautiful friendship. Ramir even wrote my mom a note on Facebook saying how nice it was to see Amy so happy to see me and that she had raised a wonderful daughter. I mean, who does that? I couldn't believe how thoughtful he was.
Whenever I do little excursions like this I'm always weary if I should due to finances and asking people to help out with kids. But in the end it was just what my spirit needed and was completely uplifting. Which makes me so grateful for all the help I got from wonderful family to make this possible.
New Orleans Riverwalk
Oak Valley Plantation
Our tour guide, and apparently all the tour guides, have had some supernatural encounter there. It's haunted, and especially so between 3 and 6 pm.
Feeding the ducks
Where the LSU mascot, Mike the Tiger (a real tiger) is housed. It cost a lot of money to build...they really love their football and their mascot.
Cemetary in New Orleans, I just thought it was kind of interesting.
The famous New Orleans beignets!
The famous Cafe du Monde, man that place is busy!
Across the street where all the vendors, staute people, and other interesting things are happening
Amy and Ramir moved from a home in Idaho to an apartment. I love Amy's simple style and very clean and clutter free home (which is impressive when downsizing)
Amy is so crafty and made that rug....
and the lampshade and ottoman cover. That girl can do it all.
